Overview - Despite the devastation of Katrina, Jazz is still alive and well in New Orleans, and visiting there can give a moral boost to the town, which lost so much. We'll visit the Jazz Museum, take in a few famous spots and of course, listen to music at night.
Breakfast - This is tricky, in a city that stays up late. If you are okay with a late breakfast, head to Coops on Decatur Street, to support their post-Katrina reopening. If you want a normal early breakfast, your best bet is the Cafe Du Monde at the French Market on Decatur Street. Their beignets (fried sort of fritter things) are a must.
Morning - Start off at the Jazz National Historic Park. There are two locations, both near the waterfront. They have ranger-led events, and a good collection of Jazz memorabilia and facts.
