Anne of Green Gables in Prince Edward Island, Canada - 24-Hour Travel Guide
Overview - Prince Edward Island is vast, and just a taste will be possible, so we'll focus on Charlottetown. We'll visit Anne of Green Gables, walk the Confederation Trail, and watch Anne, the musical.
Breakfast - Start with breakfast in Charlottetown, at the Snap Dragon B & B, where you'll have spent the night. It's a classic PEI Building, and is in easy walking distance of everything.
Morning - First stop is Cavendish, and the Green Gables house that inspired the book. If you can, be sure to have the book with you for reading at night, and reliving your youth. (if you are a guy, well, read it anyway. If you are female, you already read it.) The country side is fabulous, and the site is a national park. Take time to tour all that is there to see and read about.
Lunch - Return to Charlottetown and have lunch on the waterfront. The Peake's Quay Restaurant has an immense terrace, and lots of sea food choices. Mostly, the setting is what you are getting, and it's the best.
Afternoon - Visit Park Corner and the Anne of Green Gables museum, and then head over to talk a bit of a walk along the Confederation Trail. This trail goes from one end of PEI to the other, which means you can pick up bits of it just about anywhere. It leads through lovely countryside, small villages and towns. Just go far enough to get a taste and then return.
Dinner - If you like oysters, have dinner at the Claddagh Oyster House. It's been undergoing renovation, but it has been in business for a while, so it's pretty good at creating oyster dishes.
After Dark - The musical Anne of Green Gables is fun for adults and kids, and especially in 2008, when its the 100th anniversary, they really live it up. It's held in Charlottetown and is a good way to end the day.
Sleep - The Snap Dragon B & B is a lovely, PEI style house, and definitely caters to the Anne of Green Gables crowd, but also has tips on all the other things you can do on PEI, if you have a few more days, which hopefully you do.
