Breakfast - Most restaurants that are open at 7 a.m. for breakfast in the city are big chains—Starbucks and McDonald’s, for example. But, there are some exceptions. The Balthazar, located at 80 Spring Street between Broadway and Crosby Street, is one of my favorites. This brunch powerhouse has a great takeout bakery that opens at 7:30 a.m. Breakfast starts at 8 a.m., making its block of Spring Street the most active stretch of sidewalk for that half-hour. For the first two hours, the menu is limited to continental breakfast. The eggs benedict on buttermilk pancakes are wonderful, and the atmosphere is fantastic, plus there’s no wait for a table. Brunch is the traditional start to the New York weekday and gets off to a start at 10: a.m.
Morning - There’s simply nothing so beautiful than catching the sunrise before breakfast (about 5:40 a.m.) from somewhere near the middle of the Brooklyn Bridge. It’s just a 10-minute casual walk from the City-Hall-Brooklyn continue reading ...

Ask any New Yorker and they’ll tell you how much they love the city, but it costs so much to live there. New York City has consistently been on the top of the list of the most expensive cities in the US. That doesn’t mean, however, that you can’t have fun and be frugal at the same time in the City That Never Sleeps. With a little advanced planning, 24 hours in the Big Apple doesn’t have to break the bank. continue reading ...

Breakfast - Breakfast is a little bit early to start eating ice cream, so we recommend beginning the day at Veselka (2nd Avenue and 9th Street) a 24 hour diner and Polish/Ukrainian restaurant. The staff are friendly, the kids will enjoy pancakes or bagels, the parents a strong cup of regular coffee and a shared plate of potato pierogi, blintzes or potato pancakes. Remember, you have continue reading ...

Breakfast - Sarabeth’s Kitchen, 423 Amsterdam Avenue. No matter what part of the city you happen to be staying in, it’s worth a trip to the Upper West Side and Sarabeth’s Kitchen for breakfast. Plenty of other people will have the identical idea so make sure you get there early, or be prepared to stand in line. They serve sticky buns, raisin scones, great pumpkin waffles and an ever-changing continue reading ...

Breakfast - New York is a mix of culture, style, sophistication, and adventure, and some of the best ways to experience the city to the fullest can be to travel alone. Start your day with breakfast at 88 Orchard, located between Broome and Grand Streets. This Lower East Side café has two walls of windows that are open on warm days, pressed-tin ceilings, and though it gets a lot of continue reading ...

Breakfast - For breakfast meetings, Oscar's at the Waldorf Astoria (50th and Lexington) is hard to beat. For a more casual but trendy atmosphere, you can't beat Balthazar (80 Spring St) in Soho.
Morning - There's nothing like a run in Central Park to make you feel like you're a New Yorker. Even if you don't want to run, you should stroll through the park and soak up the continue reading ...

Breakfast - A good way to ease into the day is breakfast at Elephant & Castle, on Greenwich Avenue in the Village. This is one of those New York institutions with a long list of regulars who have been coming here every morning for years. E&C has the look and feel of a local pub. The place is known for serving huge omelets, great breads and bakery items, and wonderful coffees and teas. continue reading ...

Breakfast - Friend of a Farmer, on Irving Place between 18th and 19th Street, in the Gramercy/Flatiron District, serves a great breakfast. It has comfortable, country décor and laid-back, easy service. They serve fresh baked breads, pastries, and all sorts of egg dishes. The lemon bread, you’ll find, is famous for a reason. It’s a lovely way to start the day. continue reading ...

Breakfast - Have an espresso at Pete’s Tavern–the city’s oldest bar, which also serves an excellent selection of breakfast items during brunch on Saturday and Sunday starting at 10:30 a.m. The restaurant is located at 129 East 18th Street, one block south of historic Gramercy Park in one of the city’s oldest neighborhoods.
