Sightseeing in New York City, New York State - 24-Hour Travel Guide
Breakfast - H & H Bagel, at Broadway & 80th Street, is a New York City favorite. The bagels—a NYC specialty—are freshly baked with excellent seasonings of your choice. Founded in l972, H & H has been featured in a variety of television shows and feature films, including “Seinfeld,” and “We’ve Got Mail” with Meg Ryan and Tom Hanks.
Morning - Take a double-decker “All Loops” tour with Gray Line Tours. Each loop (Uptown, Downtown, Brooklyn, Night) is two to three hours, and your ticket is good for 48 hours. If you’re a Seinfeld fan, you’ll enjoy a tour by the real Kramer after which the TV Kramner is modeled. You’ll see Seinfeld sites by way of the Kramer Realty Tour. If time permits, I’d say catch a cab the Museum of Television & Radio at Fifth Avenue and 52nd Street. This popular museum is best known for its enormous video and audio library. Don’t miss the “I Love Lucy” episodes.
Lunch - Follow your visit up with a fabulous lunch at the popular 21 Club practically next-door. This celebrated restaurant (albeit expensive) was once a glamorous speakeasy. It’s an excellent dining experience, combining great food and attentive service with unique, historical surroundings.
Afternoon - Enjoy a lot of great scenery on a harbor cruise. The New York Circle Line Cruise provides spectacular views and captures all the highlights of this wonderful city. You’ll get a close up view of the Statue of Liberty, sail down the Hudson, up the East River, and under the Brooklyn Manhattan and Williamsburg Bridges to the United Nations.
Dinner - Enjoy a great dinner at Gallagher’s Streak House, 228 W. 52nd Street (the northern end of the theater district). The restaurant, founded in 1927 by Helen Gallagher, a former Ziegfield girl, and Jack Solomon, a colorful gambler with a large, loyal following is known for its prime beef, tender steaks and giant lobsters. Bring your appetite!
After Dark - Finish the evening off in the famous Oak Bar located on the first floor of the legendary Plaza Hotel on Fifth Avenue. Sit in a comfy leather club chair overlooking Central Park.
Sleep - There are many hotels in New York City conveniently located in the center of everything. The Marriott Marquis at 45th Street is filled to the gills with escalators for getting around. The staff is wonderful and will provide you some excellent service. Some NYC suites come with fully equipped kitchens. These are great for folks who don’t like to shower and dress before breakfast. I’d recommend The Kimberly on E. 50th Street.
