Luxury Golf in La Jolla, California - 24-Hour Travel Guide
Overview - Home to UCSD, La Jolla has great shopping, the Scrippts Institute, and Torrey Pines Golf Course.
Breakfast - After a early morning walk along the water, head up to La Jolla Boulevard. There's a small bistro, Leanna's, where you can get a light breakfast.
Morning - It's quite lovely to stroll up La Jolla Boulevard in the morning before all the tourists and shoppers are there. Not all of the stores are open, you will want to come back later, but it gives a nice feel for the area. It is particularly fun to wander down some of the side streets, and then walk along the overlook for the water. Keep your eyes open for a little shopping center that seems small but turns into multiple levels, all the way down to the beach. There's a great Shell shop there to get some exoctic sea shells. Then head over to Birch Aquarium, which is part of Scripps Institute, for an awesome look at the research into sea life that they do at Scripps.
Lunch - Since you will be golfing in the afternoon, head to Torrey Pines for lunch on the patio at the Lodge at Torrey Pines. The view is fabulous and the food is first class luxury.
Afternoon - You can get in at least 9 holes on Torrey Pines, and even if you are not a golfer, go along with one club. The views are phenomenal, and probably not matched by any golf course along the California coast, except perhaps the one up at Carmel. The weather is always sublime.
Dinner - Have sublime California cuisine at Georges at the Cove in La Jolla. Try and get there towards sunset, so you can "have your cake and eat it, too." The setting is beyond beautiful.
After Dark - There's still a fair amount of activity on La Jolla Boulevard after dinner, although a number of shops close by 6 pm. You can window shop, and definitely get an after-dinner drink at La Trattoria for a taste of Italy in California.
Sleep - Don't pass up a night at The Lodge at Torrey Pines. Besides the fact that you'll get a discount on your green fees, it is the epitome of luxury on the coast.
