Afternoon - Drive up the road to hike in the Sangri di Cristo mountains. There are beautiful hiking trails, and it's about a half hour drive from the town. It's not bear country, but watch out for lightening, and don't walk during a lightening storm, which is prevelant in the summer. (This is in the caldera, a huge space created by the volanco.)

After Dark - This is not really an after-dark place, except that you could go back to the hot springs, which is lovely in the evening, watching the stars come out.
Sleep - Stay at the Giggling Springs B &B, which is right along the river. They have less than 12 rooms, and serve a lovely breakfast.
