Overview - From West Lake to Fei Lai Feng Mountain, Hangzhou is undoubtedly one of the most naturally beautiful places in China. Today, you’ll have the chance to see serene lakeside greenery, quiet Buddhist grottos and spectacular peak views.
Breakfast - Today, you’ll start your morning with a traditional Chinese breakfast of congee (boiled rice porridge), youtiao (deep-fried crullers) and baozi (steamed pork buns) from one of the many roadside vendors near your hotel.
Morning - First on your schedule today are stops at several scenic spots in Hangzhou’s southern hills. Stone steps and ancient archways comprise the path to Hupao (Tiger) Spring, which takes its name from a myth about two tigers that dug a deep hole, unearthing the spring. Next, you’ll visit the Lingyin Temple to view the ornate carvings in the Buddhis grottoes located there.
Lunch - Stop for lunch at a small restaurant in one of the many villages that lie in the hills of Hangzhou. For truly authentic food, order stir-fried wild greens and chicken soup. Try Longjing Village, where you will also be able to taste the local tea.
Afternoon - North Peak is the highest point in Hangzhou. Hike up or take the cable car to the top of the peak for spectacular views of the city and surrounding area. The peak is only 355 meters high, but the hike can be rigorous, so stop for an ice cream break along the way.
Dinner - Treat yourself to dinner overlooking peaceful West Lake at one of the many upmarket restaurants in Hangzhou’s Tiandi district. Located along the shores of the lake, Tiandi’s walkways swirl through foliage and gardens decorated in fairy lights. Crystal Jade Restaurant offers every imaginable type of Chinese food presented on an English menu, and their huge windows look out into sublime greenery.
After Dark - Hire a boat and sail out to Three Pools Mirroring the Moon, a group of three man-made islands in the middle of West Lake known for their romantic, evening scenery. “One Moon in the Sky with Three Reflections in the Lake” and “Moon Over the Peaceful Lake in Autumn” are best viewed during a full moon when the shimmery reflections are at their brightest.
Sleep - The Starway Jingshan Hotel, located on Nanshan Road right across from West Lake, is the perfect base camp for a day of natural sightseeing. The hotel is modern and clean but not lacking in character, and is situated in one of the greener areas of Hangzhou. Relax under the shade of leafy trees on their outdoor deck café and enjoy the traditional Chinese décor in each room.
